Join the National Biodiversity Data Centre and Dublin City Council for an introduction to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Ireland. During this workshop we will look at the features used to identify Ireland’s Dragonfly and Damselfly species, how to survey for them, where to find them, and helpful suggestions on identification resources. The morning will consist of a short introduction to the Dragonfly Ireland 2019 – 2024 project, followed by an illustrated talk with particular emphasis on key identification features. In the afternoon we will explore Tolka Valley Park to practice our field skills and hopefully spot some of the many species to be found in the Tolka Valley Park Wetlands. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh their identification skills.
Lunch: Tea/Coffee provided but please bring a packed lunch.
Clothing: Sturdy walking boots or wellingtons. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a hat and sunglasses.
Health & Safety: Please be mindful that this workshop includes an element of teaching outdoors. Warm waterproof clothing and good walking footwear are essential. As a rule of thumb, it is generally expected that any participants who sign up for a workshop that involves spending time in the outdoors will own and bring the appropriate outdoor clothing. A risk assessment for this event has been completed and participants are asked to listen carefully to the safety briefings that are delivered on the day.
Please Note: This workshop will only proceed with a minimum of 10 participants. If fewer than 10 participants register to attend, the workshop may be cancelled and fees refunded.
